How can rational people force the majority to exam the documentation and ignore rhetoric bullshit?

Asked by philosopher (9065points) August 21st, 2011

Isn’t this what is actually wrong with our Political System?
I dislike both parties because they are ruled by rhetoric bullshit. I think most intelligent Americans are more aware of the facts than them.
Choosing the lesser of two evils is getting more difficult every election.
No one Represents the Majority of Americans.
They enjoy calling each other names. They all Represent the Lobbyist. Not the Middle Class.
How many of you can comprehend this?
The Republicans are currently ruled by a minority of people who Represent the extreme R. The Democrats are currently ruled by the extreme L.
They both decide issues based on hype not common sense, the facts or what is best for most American’s.

They do it with their votes but really the officials we elect are doing what they are expected to do. Fanatical left wingers keep their golden boys and girls where they are, and the right does the same thing. Not much room for any middle. We are being ruled by the fringes because they are the loudest. To tell the truth without the embellishment and fear tactics will get what they think they want. Both sides do it, it’s just that each side says the other does it more. So I guess the rational voters are in the minority…unless you are a Democrat…and are convinced you’re the rational one or…if you are Republican you wholehearted believe you corner the market on rationality. Until this stops we all are going to vote for the lesser of the two evils. The way anything changes, for better or worse, is when one side has a filibuster proof majority which is the new meaning of compromise.

At least that’s the way it looks from my house.

@woodcutter
We need a new Moderate party.

Moderates tend to not fall in line as much with special interest groups who do a lot of the heavy lifting and endorsements before elections. Most special interests need extremist politicians to do their bidding. Or is it the other way around? So it looks like they have to lie gasp about their ideologies to get the fringe vote and win then change back to moderates in practice. The problem is if they are not 100% 0n board with a group they get labelled the extreme opposite and are made to look disingenuous.The moderates are pressured to caucus with the extremists so their effectiveness becomes subdued.

We’re screwed anyway.

@woodcutter
Somehow this must change. Hopefully without violence.

@philosopher It’s going to take something bad to happen. As crappy as things are now, we have a lot further to go before the fuse it lit. Buy it cheap and stack it deep…and wait.

I hope it will not come to a point of bloody Revolution.

@philosopher Me either. What I was thinking is, one more collapse of the economy where it just stays bad and there will be nothing for any politician to hide behind. We already see the back and forth finger pointing now which does have some credibility. That’s bad enough. The next time it all goes to shit there will be more hurting and then it may set some change in motion. That’s when the time will be ripe for a more socialist style of America because the private sector is going to go underground and will be of no help to turn it around. Then the most staunch conservatives will have to swallow that bitter pill because even they will get it.

They fear this is going to happen in the future because as much as the libtards on here like to poo poo the right with school yard insults, they do have that bigger picture in the back of their minds. They just will never admit it. It’s a very real and highly probable scenario playing out now. Do you really think GW Bush was ready to sign a bill renstating the assault weapons ban because he believes there are too many crimes involving their use?

I believe that Bush was still the worst President in my lifetime. He tied with Carter. I am not an Obama fan.
Bush never served a day in the Military. His father got him out of the Reserves. He started the Iraq war despite that he knew there were No weapons of Mass Destruction. No I can’t prove it but I believe it. Bush sold us out to China. He shut the Plant in the US that made the chemical to fuel Smart Bombs run. He allowed China to open a plant that makes this chemical. This is very bad for all Democracies. Everything he did was to enrich himself and his friends. He allowed jobs to relocate to China and other nations. He did not say or do anything to stop it. What a President says can make a difference.
I believe in Karma and one day his family will reap what they sow.
The collapse of the Economy was Bush’s fault. Under Clinton the US Economy thrived.
I don’t care who any of them sleep with. I care about legal hard working American’s.
