Motorcycle vs. automobile. Which is better and why?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) August 22nd, 2011

I talked to a man riding a Harley. He stated his bike was getting 52 miles per gallon. He stated he would never trade his “hog” for an automobile, because of the gas mileage. I got to thinking of the main differences between his Harley and my Toyota. 52 mpg vs. 31 mpg and let’s look at some major differences between the two. My Toyota gets 31 mpg. It is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I stay dry in thunderstorms, where Harley owners are wet and hide under overpasses. I have a nice stereo to listen to….Harley owners listen to the pavement. I can eat in my cool/warm, dry Toyota and Harley owners are breaking out the rain gear.

After careful consideration, I think I have the best deal in riding comfort, even at 31 mpg.

Question: what is your opinion of this comparison? Who has the better deal out on the road?

I think a bike is cheaper, but I prefer to stay dry when I drive in the rain and snow.

A Harley makes for a stronger babe magnet than a Toyota?

Canoodling in the winter is much better in a car and safer…no helmets needed…well maybe in a compact.

I think this will depend on what a person is partial to. Don’t most bikers also have some kind of car somewhere?

I’ve taken my bike out in January after chopping a channel in the ice so I could roll it to the road to go for ice cream. I used my car only in the icy winter months, rode the bike all the rest of the year. Put FAR more miles on the bike than the car.

Anything that comes between my body and the surface of the road gets my vote: car!

I had a gal on the way to Sturgis one year tell me that Harley Davidson made the worlds best vibrator. Considering what I have to haul around, I will keep my truck.

I wouldn’t mind having a ‘48 or so Indian however.

My boyfriend has a Harley and, as much as I love the look of the bike and enjoy riding on the back, I am much happier if I know he is travelling somewhere by car rather than the bike. The bike is definitely cheaper to run but most of the weather we have in England is not biker friendly!

@WestRiverrat – Best vibrator awards go to the old Triumph’s…..Harley can’t hold a candle to that. LOL
