Can I use a mini hair straightener as a hair extensions fusion iron?

Asked by chokolatcake (111points) September 12th, 2011

I bought U tip hair extensions and I plan to put them in myself and with the help of a friend (please leave advice and don’t advise to go to a salon)

I was wondering if its possible to use a mini hair straightener if I do not have a fusion iron?

:) xx

I’d assume it would say somewhere on the package if it has to be a certain iron or if any iron will work. If it’s not on the package, try it out on some less visible area of your hair. I know you said you don’t want to go to a salon, but have you tried looking on craigslist for someone who can do it? Might be worth it to check…

@cheebdragon thanks for leaving a comment, Every time i’ve been to a salon they reasure me they know what they are doing… but it’s always ended in fail :( and i’ve alwats cut, dyed and done my own extensions and never had problems :) I’m just wondering if its possible… Its never crossed my mind and I’ve never used a mini straightener for doing extensions, but before I try it, its good to do a bit of recon wouldnt you agree?
I havent gotten my extensions yet either, I ordered them of the computer so I cant test this idea just yet…

Does your flat iron have heat settings? A good flat iron will get really hot, but I don’t think that is the ultimate goal with a fusion iron. I would definitely try it on an inconspicuous spot before going crazy with it, just to be sure.
