Rapid low cost short life injection or blow mold tooling?

Asked by tedibear (19315points) September 21st, 2011

Does anyone know how to design tools for injection or blow molding that will only live for 50,000 shots? Any tricks to get this done quickly? We are looking to make cabinets that will change many times and want to get inexpensive tooling that can be made rapidly.

Could you be a little clearer on what you need? Are you making parts for the cabinets? How will they change? What size objects do you want to make with the injection molding equipment? I always seem to need clarification. :-(

We are making the cabinets themselves – roughly 20” tall x 15” wide x 20” long with ¼” wall thickness. The look of the cabinets will change, mostly outside shape.

O.K. I’m definitely over my head on this one. Sorry to have wasted your time @tedibear. I don’t know what you can do. If you’re making the cabinets themselves, well tooling the injection molds would require a fairly high degree of precision engineering because the cabinets have to be square; “square” in this instance meaning that there can’t be very much deviation in the planes, angles, dimensions, etc. or they’re not going to be very good cabinets. So it sounds like a job for a professional. I guess you’re just have to shop around for who can do it fastest, cheapest and work with shorter production runs and multiple molds, I guess is what you’re looking for. Anyway, like I said, I’m over my head on this one. Good luck.
