Why does the sound stop on QuickTime?

Asked by bhec10 (6458points) November 13th, 2011

When I am watching a movie on my MacBook Pro, QuickTime has sound, but after 1 or 2 seconds, the sound is gone… The movie keeps playing but no sound goes through my speakers. I have Lion if it helps.

This only happens with some files though..

What might be wrong and how can I fix this?

I had a lot of audio problems with 10.7.0. VLC, Quicktime, and iTunes would randomly lose sound. And when the sound came back it would be out of sync, I restart would fix it, but it was a pain in the ass. Luckily, upgrading to 10.7.2 cleared the problem up.

So I would make sure software update says everything is current.

Thanks @johnpowell! But how do I do that? The version of QuickTime I have is 10.1 and I have just done a software update but no new version of QuickTime was included in that.

Is your version of Lion 10.7.2?
