Can anyone list some movies that has to do with LSD/acid?

Asked by xTheDreamer (897points) November 24th, 2011

I’m doing a project with Flash and we had to think of a concept that we’re going to pitch.

Since my concept is about a world sort of like lsd trippy, I wanted to get inspirations from movies that has a subliminal message of lsd or some sort of trippy movie.

Like for instance I heard Alice in Wonderland had something to do with lsd or some sort.

So yea I was wondering for a list of movies that’s trippy like and lsd to get my inspirations flowing.

The old 60’s classic ” Skidoo” with Jackie Gleason and Carol Channing. A cult classic.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is pretty good for that. Not exactly subliminal though.

Have LSD in them….
SLC Punk, Altered States, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Super Troopers, A multitude of Cheech and Chong movies, Enter the Void.

As an aside Alice in Wonderland is most definitely not about LSD as it was written about a hundred years prior to Hoffman’s first synthesis.

Don’t Have LSD but are just trippy as hell….
The Secret of Kells, Ponyo, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Yellow Submarine, Microcosmos, Cat Soup, Fantasia, Fritz the Cat, Heavy Metal, The Fall, The Wall, Time Bandits, Waking Life, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind….

I watched The Holy Mountain not too long ago and it was awesome. Look up the trailer on YouTube. If I remember correctly, the cast was given LSD before filming several scenes and the whole movie is like one big acid trip.

The band The Monkees made a really neat movie in 1968, directed by Jack Nicholson, called Head. Here is a very LSD influenced clip from that movie, with the song Porpoise Song and another clip from the same movie with the song Do I Have to do this all over again?

Most of the James Bond movies, opening credits are pretty trippy like this one from Goldfinger. If I copied it correctly, it should start at 4:53 where the graphics start.

The Beatles’s movie Yellow Submarine. Here is a clip

There are a couple of scenes from The Doors movie (with Val Kilmer) that are pretty trippy including this Peyote in the Desert Scene although technically they were supposed to be on peyote, not LSD.

And here is a Psychedelic Gel Projection Light Show from 1967

Here is a list of IMDbs top 10 trippy films. I can definitely recommend the Science of Sleep pretty strange, best if you have some understanding of french but it isnt essential. I watched it with german subtitles and don’t speak french but I understood what was going on… I think anyway… although it is possible I got it wrong!
Obviously there is also Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Here is the top 7 trippy movies and the drugs that make then by mania.com
Yellow Submarine is on there.
I would also say Fantasia is pretty trippy.

It’s not like an acid trip, but you really ought to check out an old movie called “The White Bus”, aka “Red, White and Zero”. Surreal. Also, Anthony Hopkins’ first film (though he is only onscreen for a moment).

Also, The Triplets of Bellville and The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb.
