Is America the freest country in the world?

Asked by Charles (4823points) December 30th, 2011

There are many freedom indices. Some of which are:
1. Index of Economic Freedom
http://www.heritage.org/index/ranking.aspx
Hong Kong is no. 1. Singapore is no. 2.

2. Economic Freedom of the World Index
Hong Kong is again no. 1 (8.94), compared to Singapore (8.57), no. 2.

3. Freedom in the World (by Freedom House)
Singapore scores 5 for political rights, 4 for civil liberties. It is only classified as “partly free”. Many others are classified “free”.

I don’t see the US mentioned as #1 on any of those, so isn’t that a “No”?

America is not even close to being one of the most free countries. In fact, America is arguably one of the most constricted countries with new laws almost daily that build boundaries.

I think that the USA is definitely not the freest country in the world.
