Are whole grain corn TOSTITOS and ALL NATURAL salsa healthy?

Asked by MarkosV (6points) January 11th, 2012

Are they categorized as junk food? Will it make you fat? Or can they be a good snack for a person trying to lose weight?

You must keep the number of chips to around 6, true story…then yes, it’s a good snack.

I assume the Tostitos still have the same fat and carb count as regular Tositos? I don’t know for sure, check the nutrition label. Anyway, carbs and fat are not going to be the healthiest snack. Broccoli, carrots, green beans, and other raw veg that have darker colors than corn will be much healthier.

The salsa is probably healthy, tomatoes and hot peppers, what could be bad about that?

As long as you burn off calories and eat a balanced meal, tostitos and salsa aren’t going to make you gain a gross amount of weight over time.

No, they are no more healthy.

If you’re looking for healthy snacks, try things that aren’t processed or pre-packaged. Fruits, veggies, that kind of thing.

Assuming the ingredients in the salsa are actually just various fruits and vegetables, that’s a good thing. But the corn chips…most of the corn used for that sort of thing is genetically modified and grown with oil, and corn itself should only be had in small amounts, as with all grains. And something tells me most manufacturers don’t properly nixtamalize corn, which means even less nutrition and more digestive problems.

Always go by the nutrition report, not the advertisements or buzzwords. The products you ask about are not more nutritious than any other similar product available.

Salsa is healthy. In my experience though, whole-grain anything (store bought) usually isn’t any different than the regular variety of the same product. . . just with a few more grams of fiber.

So your answer lies in whether or not you think regular Tostitos are healthy!

Only if you bake your own corn chips. Commercial chips usually have too much added salt and fat.

I love fresh salsa with celery sticks. Still crunchy and pretty much guilt-free.

It’s ALL NATURAL, as “existing in nature”, Nothing natural could be unhealthy. Let’s go have a nice bowl of lead and mercury.

Oh gawd…..I’m being reminded of a homemade salsa I had with freaking mangoes…..It was so magical.
