How do I lose this belly?

Asked by Eggie (5921points) January 29th, 2012

I am a 26 year old guy that is getting a punch and I really want to get it down. I am trying to take up football, which I am really not good at and kind of ashamed to play because I am not good at it, but it is a great way to burn calories. Is there any advice that you guys can give me like what I should eat and do perhaps?

Perhaps you could bicycle to work every day. If you live too far to do that, you could drive to within 5 miles of work and bike from there.

Do abdominal crunches to tighten up your belly area.

Do you drink beer? I’ve seen men lose belly fat really quick once they stop drinking beer. Aside from eating well, a few guys (much older than you) I work with do quick running bursts through their neighborhoods in the mornings before they shower and once they get home from work. I think they just run all out until spent and then jog or walk back home.

Well, you can run and you if you’re going to play football (American or World) then you must have a good sense of centripetal balance. And guess what? Centripetal balance is a combo of good legs and core strength. I would say you should try to play cornerback (if it’s American football anyhow). You’re just going to run with the wide receiver every down and the way your body has to adjust to the ball in the air is good torso turning. Don’t be ashamed to play, just put on your survival mode hat. You will get hit, but more importantly you will hit! Follow the other players hips, nothing else. Hit their hips for tackling, or legs. Never try to tackle up high. And when tackling always have your knees bent.

As for your diet. Avoid all candy. Anything high in sugar (orange juice, and stuff like that may shock you) or anything high in sodium (chips and junk like that is unnecessary.)

Literally when I had a gut, all I was doing to battle it was drinking water, and running 3.3 miles a day 5 days a week. For me, I had to combine it with a good diet, because my body was used to being highly active and although my activity has greatly declined, my appetite hasn’t! It’s as if my body wants to store everything just because I’ve stretched my activity potential so high. Anyways I don’t know if activity potential truly exists. But I say to you, whatever activity you do, just keep active from here on out and your belly will dissipate. For your sweets, just have strawberries, oranges, mangos and etc. Stuff of that nature.

Good luck my friend.

I know this sounds trite but, “Eat less and exercise more.” Just do it gradually. Back off a little Only eat 2 pieces of pizza insead of three. If you drink beer, skip one or two.

Wear wrist weights. 250 gram, ½ pound, per wrist. Try to wear them all day under your long sleeved shirt. You will be amazed how much extra work that is.hard that is to do.

Start today! It will never be easier than right now!

I have lost weight three ways.

Working on and island for a week as a volunteer in a national park, 10 hour days in 90 degree heat, I lost 12 pounds.

Running 3 miles a day, every other day, for 3 months.

Bicycle commuting, 24 miles each day (12 in the morning, 12 in the evening) for 3 months.

And for three months, I mean that’s when the weight loss was obvious. I have to maintain the activity to keep off the pounds.

You just need to do cardio. Doing crunches wont make you lose the fat, it’ll just make the muscles under the fat stronger, but that’s not what you’re after initially. I find it’s easier to do cardio if you change it up. Tennis, casual bike riding, spinning, running, hiking, sprinting, football, swimming. Just do something.

Avoid simple carbs such as pasta, breads, simple sugars and most whole grains. Most carbs and sugars are fat magnets. Eat more foods with protein and complex carbs while trying to limit your carbohydrate intake to under 100 (ideally) to 200 grams a day. This worked for me without the exercise, well unless you count a physical job as exercise. You should exercise or be more physical when on a low carb diet. You don’t have to go Atkins or Ketogenic here but limit your simple carbs more while staying physically active.
