Why can't I find myself on YouTube?

Asked by College_girl (917points) February 12th, 2012

So I just made a new YouTube account and my friends said nothing appeared when they searched my channel name. Then I tried and it didn’t work. I literally made it about 10 or 15 minutes ago. Is it just not like activated or something like that?

Your channel won’t show up when you search it if you don’t have any uploads or much activity. At least I think that’s the deal. I know that when I search my channel it comes up but when I search my sister’s it doesn’t show. She has no uploads and really doesn’t use YouTube that much but I have uploaded several videos and am quite active.

It’s like @global_nomad said: you have to do something findable to be found on YouTube.

I might take a little while for you/your videos to be properly indexed in their search. Check it in an hour or two.

How odd. Any channel with more than two uploads should be indexed and showing up in search results. Does your channel have a fairly unique name? It could just be getting drowned out by other results. You should also make sure you’ve set your channel to be visible. Go to My Channel > Edit Channel > Info and Settings and see if you have the “Make my channel visible on YouTube” box checked. You can get there by signing in and clicking on your account name in the upper right corner. Also, remember that you can go directly to a channel by entering its URL into your address bar. The format is http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=USERNAME.

Yes its fairly unique and my settings make my channel visible. It’s not a matter of me just wanting to find it but having others find it also
