My brother complains that his anus itches?

Asked by minnie19 (435points) June 10th, 2012 from iPhone

He says he had to go to the bathroom 6 times today to poop. And he says there was a yellow-ish mucus thing in his stool the latest time. And his anus itches too. We are worried, what can this be?

Here is a website that explains What is Anal Itching? From the description, it might be caused by:
Abrasive rubbing – cleaning your bottom with toilet paper can aggravate anal itching if the sensitive skin area is rubbed too hard, for too long, or too often.

Type of toilet paper – the texture and substances added to toilet paper may irritate and inflame the skin in the anal area, resulting in itching.

The other causes listed are worth sharing with him. To get that kind of stool, it sounds like something he ate didn’t digest well, particularly if it was a spicy food.

He should probably go see a gastroenterologist. The itching is most likely caused by pooping 6 times a day which is the worrying symptom. That and the mucus might suggest he may have some sort of inflamatory bowel disease (IBD) or perhaps irritable bowel disease (IBS).

@Lightlyseared‘s got it, a healthy person doesn’t need to go six times a day, and mucous is also worrisome. Get him scoped.

You don’t mention your brother’s age; kids are known to get pinworms

Tell him to get his ass to a doctor

Here is another Thread from not too long ago that discusses this same problem. Sounds like pinworms. You should definitely take him to a doctor.

Kind of odd that both Q’s were asking about brothers, what are the odds of that?

I just heard today that eating to much sugar makes some people’s butt itch.

My brother is 18. It is not pinwarms but it might be other things listed above. I need a doctor now.

@minnie19 It’s been a day. Would you update us on your brother’s status?

He showed me a white weird moving substance about the size of a nail in his stool. He still has a lot of gas. A lt o noises going on in stomach. He did go to bathroom more than 3 times today. And, his anus itches from time to time, especially after bathroom sessions. We looked up the IBS, and maybe thats it… We are worried.

Thank you for the update. It sounds like some type of worm, so @Kardamom is probably right.

Here is a link about pinworms. Please read it, because if she is correct, they are highly contagious by being passed from person-to-person. It’s time for the brother to visit his doctor or a clinic.

We can all speculate.
It is clearly not normal, and most likely representative of disease or disorder. Why screw around with Fluther. This is the place where people seek advice about what to tell their depressed boyfriend that he has bad breath or if they should get a tattoo on their forehead.
See a medical doctor.

Haha.. You guys are right. Quick update, it itches more at night. He cant sleep. Also we just found white little thin moving things on his boxers. Gross!!!

@minnie19 If I was your brother and I saw that I’d run to the doctor immediately and not wait one second longer. I’d be so horrfied that I’d probably have a nervous fit.

Is there any reason for him delaying seeing a doctor?

He says he can live with it. Weirdo. I am seeing a doctor on his behalf today unfortunately.

Kardamom's avatar

@minnie19 That’s just sick, to say that he can live with worms. He’s probably just scared or embarrassed. Make an appointment for him and drag him there.

Bring up this image to him: maggots in his ass and crapping all the time. Not a pretty picture.

Assure him that the doctors will be compassionate and discreet. And the cure is fairly Simple. Please make him go immediately and See This

And know that anyone else who lives in the household with him should also be checked for pinworms because it’s highly contagious.
