I’m trying to grow out my fingernails, but they are flimsy and pieces of them peel off all of the time.

I’ve read that drinking a solution of water and gelatin will help. I’ve also read that it doesn’t work. What I read about that’s worked for me, personally, is using a moisturizing lotion on my nails as well as my hands. Rub it into he nails daily. Avoiding strong cleaning products also helps. Use gloves when working with caustic cleaning cleaning products.

My sister-in-law uses that “Hard as Nails” stuff by Sally Hansen.

The best thing to do is avoid water and using them as tools. When I stopped using nail polish and they grew out, they became much stronger. Don’t buff the surface as it wears away the layers. Learn to type with the balls of your fingers. File in one direction instead of a back and forth direction.

Should you decide that nail polish is a necessity, purchase some non-acetone polish remover. It doesn’t dry nails out as much as acetone does.

I take a tablespoon of food grade diatomaceous earth which is silica, every morning. My nails are hard as rocks. Also good for many things, hair, skin….

I used to have thin nails and couldn’t remember to avoid using the, as tools. I wore acrylic nails for several years and totally retrained myself to use the side of my finger when opening a soda can and to slide coins instead of picking them up etc. when Ifot rid of the acrylic I continued to avoid using my nails as tools and they rarely broke. They somehow got thicker too.
