Do you make smoothies at home?

Asked by philosopher (9065points) August 27th, 2012

What type of blender do you use?
We just bought a Vitamix. Both Vitamix and Blendtech are around $300.00 but Consumer Reports rates Vitamix much higher.
Do you prefer Vitamix, Blendtech or another blender? My Cuisinart broke after a year. Vitamix and Blendtech are suppose to last seven years.
I bought it at Costco if, it breaks they will refund it.
Is it worth $300.00?
I think it is worth the money because I have been buying a new blender every year. Do you agree?

Yes. We have a Ninja blender and it is pretty good.

What is that?
What do you make?
I make fruit smoothies using all kinds of fresh fruit, organic yogurt and coconut milk.

I make all kinds of smoothies, usually using fresh fruit :D
We use a Merlin Magic. It comes with a “dry” blade, and a “liquid” blade. I use the liquid blade.
It works a treat, and it’s been my favourite grinder/blender so far.

My personal favorite it a peanut butter and banana smoothie.

I use fresh fruit, frozen fruit for texture, organic yogurt and coconut milk. It makes a healthy filling meal.

I do like banana in my smoothies. I am sure peanut butter or almond butter would be great.

@philosopher As well as smoothies, I also love milkshakes. My favourite is a banana and honey milkshake, with crushed ice :D
My favourite smoothie would be a mango smoothie, I’d use soft sweet mangoes (hard to get hold of here). If I can;t get those, I’ll use some mango pulp. I’ll then add some live yoghurt and some full fat milk, and some sugar. It tastes amazing, but you have to get the ratio right for it to taste that good.

I try to make them low fat and very healthy. I get fresh mango’s, strawberries, avocado, bananas, blueberries ,oranges or any fresh fruit, also frozen fruit, organic yogurt and coconut milk. The banana, avocado, yogurt, frozen fruit and coconut milk give it the perfect texture. I get my family to eat more fruit. I live on fruit.

Yep, all the time. I have a Ninja “full kitchen system” for blending, chopping, mixing dough, etc… and I love it!

And since everyone else is talking about their favorite blends, I’ll suggest everyone try mango, pineapple, cucumber. Sounds weird, tastes fabulous!

Not very healthy, but just amazing….

1. The classic: 1.5 – 2 frozen bananas, 2–3 strawberries, a spash of OJ.
2. The decadent dessert: 1.5 – 2 frozen bananas, a heaping blob of peanut butter (more than you think), milk
3. Green smoothie: I have no idea what goes in this, other than kale, other greens, blueberries, apple, and maybe a splash of almond milk. My wife makes these and they are delicious.

You bet! Mine tend to have bananas in them, frozen berries—either strawberries or blueberries—and this time of the year, I’ll toss in a few blackberries I’ve picked from our yard, for good measure. I’ll add a soy or whey based protein powder in my own smoothie, though the kids won’t touch it if I put that in theirs.
Happy Day, Phil! ;)

Hi Tris:
I owe you and email. When I have a few minutes.
I use all kinds of fresh fruit and some frozen for texture and to make it cold. Berries are antioxidants. I use organic yogurt and coconut milk.
Happy Wednesday.
