Was the new Dredd movie inspired from the Indonesian martial arts movie, Redemption?

I recently saw Redemption, a very good martial arts movie from Indonesia. It has quite an interesting plot. A great recipe for an action film. And then I saw the new Dredd movie last night. Its major plot point closely resembles that of Redemption.

Would you know if there is a connection if any? I noted that Dredd was written by Alex Garland. Imo, he is a brilliant novelist. He also frequented countries in Asia.

I doubt it. Block war and the like has been part of Dredd stories since the 70’s. The Raid:redemption was written and directed by a welsh bloke so it may be that he was influenced by reading 2000AD as a kid.
