Are these bed bug bites, mosquito bites or flea bites?

Asked by tan253 (2948points) September 29th, 2012

So a strange aliment is causing me grief – (yet again)
I’ve been waking up in the night to a very mild inflamed lump on random places on my body, sometimes the soles of my feet, last night my lower back, the other night my upper back, I have this red inflamed ‘bite’ that never itches for longer than 5 mins and then I fall back asleep in the morning it feels puffy then by the afternoon it’s gone.

This happens most nights, only one singular bite.
I covered my whole body under the blankets after this episode last night thinking that if it were a mosquito it would bite the only exposed parts which were my fingers but I never got another bite.

I’m going crazy!!

We also have mosquito netting on the windows and I never hear that annoying buzz of a mosquito.

Yesterday I felt pricks and itched my leg to find 5 small little spots, I was at a park so assumed them mosquitos, but I was wearing tights and a flowing dress that has thick material so can’t have been a mosquito.

I’d love to find bed bugs right now just so I knew what it was!

My daughter isn’t getting bitten and neither is my husband just me!
We have an indoor cat but she is not itching or anything to assume fleas.

Any thoughts on this invisible bug!?

Oh I should add, I can always feel something crawling on me, but when I look there’s never anything there.

Does sound very much like a bed bug. I had friends from Parma (Italy for those unfamiliar), stay at a lodge here, and the poor girl of the two got covered in them. As for the cure for this bed bug issue, I think she picked up some cream for it, but as for the bug….that’s a different story altogether, as I know they found it, and it was a bloody big bug. Sounds like a bed bug to me.

Only one bite though?
i’ve been attacked by bed bugs before and there were multiple bites all over my face and back – was so gross, this is one singular one, I got these bites from ‘the best hostel in Cannes!’ or so they said.
Other thing is is that they hurt the next day rather than itch. So weird, I feel I’m going loony.

And you’ve not been using any lotions or creams that are not related to dealing with bites or insects or any other medical ailment? Unless this is an allergic reaction to something other than a bite I have to admit I’m pretty stumped too!

well I’ve been using, (ironically) mosquito repellant but not on my back! On my clothes… but these are definitely bites!

I was thinking allergic reaction but I can’t think to what or why or how!

There are no bedbugs in my zone, but, I have researched them before when I have had mysterious bites in the night and they almost always bite in a row of 3 bites. One bite may be a spider.

I really can’t tell, but it could be an anxiety rash of some sort? Which can take many shapes and forms. I went through strange face itching and arms, which flared up bright red. It was put down to anxiety. Other causes can be food allergies. I am just saying since no one else is getting bitten. I am also wondering why @gailcalled posted your words back at you?

^^^: The language, when considered with the OP’s earlier questions, are symptomatic of abnormal anxiety about one’s health.

I was thinking maybe anxiety also. A welt of some sort. However, most people I know who get such things have the welts or hives occur in the same places over and over again usually. Not that they can’t occur anywhere on the body.

@JLeslie Yes and they are very real, in the sense they produce physical bumps or redness. It’s a bit scary when you don’t know what they are tho.
