What is the best audio configuration?

Asked by ninja_man (1136points) October 20th, 2012

What is the best way to set up output levels for speakers? Should the system volume level match that of the speakers? Or should it be maxed and the speakers set to the desired volume level? What configuration will deliver the best quality?

Cranking up either system or hardware volume is going to result in distortions.
I tend to set a general volume with the hardware and try for more precise volume control with the software, even though I know that’s not the relationship between the two.

I’d set the hardware at about 75% and use the software to control from there as the software usually has some wireless component (remote or mouse) to help control this, which is easier and you wont get distortion because the speakers aren’t blaring as their absolute max.
