What's the most interesting/coolest transportation mode you've seen during Hurricane Sandy?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) November 1st, 2012

I saw a guy on TV on an inflatable mattress, using a snow shovel as a paddle rowing up the street to get to the grocery store. It worked, he made it to the store. They brought him back home in one of the military vehicles. As always, humor greatly appreciated.

@Adirondackwannabe The coolest thing I saw was someone footing it. I was in Queens at about 10 AM and this guy was walking around the street wearing a white terry cloth bathrobe and bright red slippers with with giant flowers on the toes! The next day I found out they had to evacuate Bellevue hospital and I wondered for a second….lol, it was good for a laugh anyways. I do think it may have been related to fallout from the hurricane. Not sure though. I know this isn’t what you were going for, but it’s all I got!

@Earthgirl That was more than good enough for me.

It’s not unusual at all, but kind of nifty under the circumstances. I saw a tug pulling a huge dark freight ship down the Hudson tonight. I was on the Jersey side and walked out on a pier to see the power outage below 39th. I took this picture of the ship as it left the darkened section of streets and moved past the lighted bit of the Financial District.
