Does anyone know about the Molasses tank explosion in Boston, Massachusetts?

Asked by emeraldisles (1949points) December 15th, 2012

I am curious as to if anyone has done a paper on this topic or actually know more of the background behind it. Evidently a molasses tank exploded in Boston, reaking havoc upon many things.

I’ve read about it a number of times over the years, but never written anything about it. My sense is that there’s plenty of information available. Some of it might be in actual books. Seems to me that I also saw something about it recently on a website that explains the various types of molasses and talks about its history in the U.S.

Okay thank you. My dad told me about it. One of his friends wrote about it for one of his engineering classes. The tank was overloaded and overpacked. It is an interesting topic to write about.

My exposure to molasses was the job I had in 1980 cleaning molasses residue out of a barge used to transport it to New Orleans!

There’s a book about the incident. When I recall the title (I did read it, after all), then I’ll post again. It was a good book.
