How do you escape from a room that has no doors, completely sealed, and just has a table and a handsaw contained in this room?

This is a riddle btw, not an actual situation…

I think it’s something like saw a hole in the wall or something. I don’t really remember. Do you already know or do you want to know?

dingus108's avatar

I already know. I’ll let more people join in on this before I give the answer.

In the interest of making this fun, if you know the answer, don’t respond; and if you don’t know the answer, no googling.

Oh god, this is one of those awful rhyming things isn’t it. I’ll have a think. :)

edit: No, I’ve heard this before! It wasn’t a handsaw, it was a mirror. You looked in the mirror to get what you saw, or something along those lines.

I remember the answer now. SPOILER: ˙ɥʇıʍ ɯooɹ ǝɥʇ ʇno qɯılɔ uɐɔ noʎ ɥɔıɥʍ ’ǝloɥʍ ɐ ǝʞɐɯ sǝʌlɐɥ oʍʇ ˙ɟlɐɥ uı ǝlqɐʇ ǝɥʇ ʇnɔ ’ʍɐs punoɟ ʍǝu sıɥʇ ƃuısn ˙ʍɐs noʎ ʇɐɥʍ ʇǝƃ oʇ ɹoɹɹıɯ ǝɥʇ uı ʞool noʎ

So only people who don’t know the answer should respond?

OK, I don’t know the answer.

If you can’t read that, run it through http://www.revfad.com/flip.html

Where is Mirza when we need him?He gave us the link to reverse the sentence that is now giving me a migraine. I suppose that I could get a mirror to read it or is that cheating?

Posted at the same time :) There you go

Turn off the DVD?

if what richard said is the real answer, then that doesn’t make sense. i mean sure its “cute”, but it just makes me mad. I WANT A PROPER RATIONAL answer damn it. (tell me there is a logical answer…?)

arnbev959's avatar

the logical answer is to either
a. saw a hole in the wall, or
b. use the table as a battering ram to knock a wall down.

gailcalled's avatar

What if the room is made of cinderblocks and concrete?

shockvalue's avatar

Then you’re in Guantanamo…

@PnL: I hate riddles like this. You hear the answer and your response boils down to… “ARE YOU JOKING? WHAT?!” Thought I’d share it with you. But yes, it is the ‘real’ answer.

jlm11f's avatar

haha i was considering using the saw to make a hole in the wall but i wasn’t sure if that would work. like gail said, we don’t know what the wall is made of ! need more information!

@ richard – yes, that’s exactly the reaction i had. i would normally follow it with physical violence but the cyberness of the situation saved dingus108…j/k

richardhenry's avatar

@petethepothead: Assuming this room is made out of conventional bricks and mortar, your saw would blunt and your table would splinter.

@PnL: The other solution I’ve heard is that a room doesn’t necessarily have a ceiling, so you could stand on the table and climb out.

richardhenry's avatar

Definition of room: a part or division of a building enclosed by walls, floor, and ceiling : he wandered from room to room.

richardhenry's avatar

Besides, without a ceiling, isn’t it just a standing enclosure or pen?

… Thinking too hard… Leaving this question… Not coming back… Ignoring future ‘riddles’

that1mom's avatar

AHAHA That is totally what I was going to say Dog…They never said no windows!

dingus108's avatar

alright, no there are no windows or mirrors… i’ll just give the answer… its way too simple, and yes you are thinking way too hard:

¡ǝloɥ ǝɥʇ uʍop oƃ noʎ puɐ ’ǝloɥ ɐ ǝʞɐɯ sǝʌlɐɥ oʍʇ ’ɟlɐɥ uı ǝlqɐʇ ǝɥʇ ʍɐs puɐ ʍɐs ǝɥʇ ǝʞɐʇ noʎ

Haha, that’s cute!

richardhenry's avatar

No it’s not.

Is there a roof, what is the ceiling made up, what are the walls made of? Don’t think I seen any of those facts.
