Will apps in the app store still be web apps?

Asked by playthebanjo (2949points) June 15th, 2008 from iPhone

I probably missed an obvious answer by not watching the wwdc keynote, but will the apps in the 2.0 app store allrequire Internet to run or will I be able to run them without wifi? (I am on an iPod touch, not an iPhone)

A little from column A.
A little from column B.

It all depends on the app in question mate. The likes of the ebay app, or the twitterific app, etc, will obviously need an internet connection. But there will be plenty of other apps that won’t. The games featured at the WWDC won’t need an internet connection for example.

You’re welcome.

Have a look at this one. I think you might like it.

And to add to what osullivanbr wrote. I wrote a app that works just fine on a iPod Touch when it can’t get a WiFi signal. It is doable, and really easy.

@osullivanbr that app was actually one that you could get with a jailbreak. I guess it was a beta version.

oh well. That’s me installing that later. Tommorrow’s work plans are ruined. Ruined I tell yeah.

Thanks for pointing that out

Applications installed on the iPhone that require a internet connection would be an application that either gets data from a website or service (Twitter or Ebay) or needs to upload something to the internet (any matter of a Flickr uploader).
