Good places to rent near D.C.?

I’m 25, from Minneapolis and starting a new job in D.C. I’m try to keep rent under 850. So I’m using classified to find a room/roommate situation. Anyone out there have any advice where I should be looking.

If you don’t mind a train commute (which is pretty painless in D.C.), the line out into the Maryland suburbs is very convenient, Maryland is gorgeous, and the rents are more reasonable.

The area is going to be expensive, even in MD, so be prepared for high rent.
