Who will be running in the next Democratic presidential primary?

Asked by LostInParadise (31915points) August 9th, 2013

There are a fair number of Republicans who have been suggested as possible candidates. Regardless of your political affiliation, I think you would agree that overall they are more qualified than the jokers who ran in the last Republican presidential primary.

Other than Hillary Clinton, who so far has said she is not running, there do not seem to be any Democrats under consideration. Biden? Kerry? I suppose they are possibilities. It would be nice to see some fresh blood, someone who has not run previously.

I think Hillary will run and I also think some other candidates will emerge whom we haven’t thought of yet.

A bunch of fossils. Everyone is in their 60’s. They are going to need to find a young Democrat.

Sit down, Weiner

I’ve heard people mention Andrew Cuomo. I think he is a good possibility. But, I always say southern Democrats have the best chance of winning. Obama proves northern Democrats can win though.

If the current poll numbers hold and Hillary is in, then she isn’t going to have a ton of challengers. Joe Biden, as the retiring VP, almost has to throw his hat in the ring. I don’t think 2016 is the right time, but names like Cory Booker and Bo Biden will likely loom large by the next cycle.

I heard Cory also now that @ETpro mentions it. I can’t imagine he would have a real chance of winning. But, you never know.

@janbb . . . Right? Her husband wasn’t exactly on anybody’s radar this early in the game when he ran either.

Shit. Even Elizabeth Warren is 64…

@filmfann I love Elizabeth Warren!

I think Cory Booker will have to become a Senator first which he very well may. But I think he would need to spend some time there or it would be too reminiscent of Obama’s rise.

@filmfann , Elizabeth Warren would be a great candidate. I would vote for her over Clinton. She has a certain spunk that is rare among Democrats. Maybe Wendy Davis will one day be in a position to run for president.

@LostInParadise I agree with both of your statements.

Has anyone asked Elizabeth Warren if she would run?

janbb's avatar

@JLeslie It seems awfully early; she just got into the Senate.

JLeslie's avatar

@janbb Early to ask? Or, you think it will be too soon for her to run for President next time around?

janbb's avatar

@JLeslie Probably both but who knows? She may emerge as a candidate.

@janbb I certainly thought it was too early for Obama to run, guess I was wrong. I remember when Obama was on Oprah as a Senator before any of the Presidency stuff was being discussed. It was obvious she thought he was wonderful. I credit the Oprah effect partly for getting him elected. If someone did that for Elizabeth Warren I think it could get the ball roling. If she went on The View a couple times, maybe the Katie show, and also if Oprah would do it. I don’t think anyone in the entertainment media will really promote any of the other Democrats while Hillary is a possibility. Especially since she is a woman. She might get interviewed, but not really promoted. I could be wrong.
