Is it me? Or does the speaker on the iPhone suck?

They are rather terrible. Hopefully the 3G will have improved on that.

take off the black park on the bottom of your phone there is a piece black tape covering up the speaker. Remove it and it will be alot louder. Just my 2 cents.

at first I poked hole with a pin thru it then I got brave and removed it. I’m also jailbroken and theres a volume app that really made it even louder, I now can hear the phone in my pocket and just about anyware in my house.youtube it . That’s how I found it.

It does suck. The film is to keep dirt out. If your speaker holes are jammed with dirt, take a dry toothbrush to them. That will hep.

Yeah- but the film saved the speakers and possibly the phone from a coffee spill last week so I will leave mine. Cleaning did help a lot. Thanks for the tip!

No, its not you. The speakers on the iPhone are terrible.

FYI, on a side note super Steve did mention in the last Keynote that there is “dramatic volume enhancement” on the new 3G. Looks like the folks at apple know the speakers suck as well. Not that this will benefit us current iPhone owners but oh well maybe another reason to look into the 3G.

have you tried changing te EQ?

I can never hear my phone, I was just talking to my husband yesterday how much the speaker on my iPhone truly sucked thought it was only me so I am so glad you asked this question. I am going to look into this tape and speaker thing. If you do remove the tape let us know. I have a case for my iPhone made by otterbox that protects my whole phone so removing the tape would not harm my speakers.
