How do I just save music files I want to my iPod from iTunes?

Asked by Ursi (16points) June 19th, 2008

I want to move 15 out of 45 files to one iPod that I have in iTunes. Is there a way to do that?

So what you’re saying is, you have 45 songs on your computer and you only want 15 of them on your ipod? Just check the box in itunes under the ipod settings that says ‘maunally manage music’ and then drag the songs you want onto your ipod.

Make a playlist and move what you want to that playlist. And then set it up like this.

But select what playlist you want. You can make a new playlist with FILE—> NEW PLAYLIST. Then you just drag the songs you want to that.

You can do it one of two ways:
#1: as yannick suggested, select the option called ‘manually manage music’ and just drag the songs you want to the iPod.
#2: As johnpowell suggested, make a playlist with the songs in question. Select the options to sync selected playlists, selecting the one you just created.

I think you can also get it to only sync(h) songs that are ‘checked’ with the little blue tick, but I can’t remember the exact process to do it that way…

Yes you can…...either as an option with ‘sync selected playlists’ or ‘sync entire library’. If the entire library is only 45 songs, I suppose any of these options are doable.

all that make a playlist is ok but damn just check or uncheck the songs you want and press sync. Wala and that’s it. Sure you can add a playlist to the already defaulted playlists if you want. Like for me I made a playlist called ‘80’s music and I dragged all my 80’s music to that playlist. Play around there is alot on iTunes

the problem with checking songs you want on your ipod, is that when you play music in itunes, it will skip the unchecked ones. i would go with the playlist route

With 4600+ songs, there’s no way I’m using the check/uncheck approach!! It’s playlists FTW!!

hey whatever works best for you have at it

and I use playlist alot. Have a few. But I find it just as much work. Everytime I add music I have to drag it to the appropriate playlist unless there is some apple script that I can put in that will do this automatically. Lol

and thanks. I did not know about unchecked songs would be skipped when playing from your computer. Have to notice that next time

You know you can make so-called smart playlists, where you set parameters and songs that fall within that are added automatically (like “artist” “contains” or “genre” “is”). It works on the same principle as Mail rules.

nice I have to look into that

Hey! Thanks everyone! I haven’t tried the check way in awhile but it seems that I must have screwed something up when I tried before as I always get everything. Will try again and I will also try playlists as well.

Thanks everyone!

Or, for the ulitmate solution, get an iPod with a very large capacity and just sync the whole damn library! Woo! haha.

Why bother making a playlist in the first place? Why not just drag and drop over the 15 songs you want. As long as you have manual updating on and not that sync crap theres no need to do the checking either.
