How should you wear crew socks with athletic shoes?

Asked by rojo (24179points) April 27th, 2015

What is the proper way to wear crew socks with sport shoes? (And why do “they” call them crew socks anyway?)
Should you wear them fully extended, that is half way up the calf, folded down neatly once or twice or just pushed down in a bunch?

I realize this is an odd, non-political question so if you feel you must, please go ahead and contrast and compare the different ways that liberals, conservatives, libertarians, green party people, socialists and tea party’ers all wear theirs.

And, at what age do I need to start wearing black socks with them?

I wear them all three ways so I guess I’m open-minded to different styles…does that make me a liberal?

If you really can’t buy ankle socks. What I do is put the long sock on, extend it all the way up, then fold the sock down to below the ankle. You’re essentially double layering your sock, so it may feel bunched up in your shoe if it’s already tight so I only do this with shoes that are a little loose.

And you should wear block socks with matching shoes or dark shoes.

If you’re wearing long pants, pulling them up is fine. If you’re wearing shorts just DON’T!
There are socks that are shorter to wear with shorts.

If my anklets advance? I’ll ask!

This is a relatively new problem. People used to wear crew socks with shorts, anklet socks weren’t available. The easy answer is: don;t wear them unless you are wearing long pants.

Rolling them down to shoe top is just as silly as having them up.
