Are you watching the Sydney to Hobart race?

Asked by Earthbound_Misfit (13177points) December 27th, 2015

Given two US yachts are in the lead right now, are you keeping an eye on this race? Comanche and Rambler are heading down the East coast of Tasmania now. Here’s a tracker so you can see where they are. It has been a tough race. Both these yachts are damaged and limping to the finish line. Twenty-nine boats have retired so far, and this year is being cited as the toughest since 2004.

I will now! Thanks for this Q, @Earthbound_Misfit.

I wish an Aussie yacht could win, but I’ll be glad if everyone makes it back safe. I think I’d like the smaller yacht to win. For no other reason than it’s smaller!

I haven’t but tell me are the Canadians still in it?

There are no Canadian yachts listed as participating. Sorry @SQUEEKY2.

Go Comanche!

And Comanche took line honours. I was really pleased to see the Aussie Ragamuffin cross the line in second place. Apparently there was quite the battle for that place against Rambler.

This is what Comanche skipper Ken Read had to say about the Sydney-Hobart race and the ‘hard piece of water’ they have sailed recently.
