What fragrant annuals should I plant in my window planter?

Asked by dammitjanetfromvegas (4601points) April 13th, 2016

Zone 5. The planter is placed outside our west facing bathroom window. When the wind blows from the west we’ll get a good scent blowing through.

Do you have any suggestions?

Did you mean to say “plant” or did you really mean “defend”?

For a serious answer, what about lilies of the valley? They smell great although I think they may be perennials.

Pity you haven’t planted some bulbs. Some freesias or hyacinths would be lovely for next year. I’ll think on fragrant annuals.

@Earthbound_Misfit All the fragrant flowers I’m thinking of are perennials too.

Geraniums, Sweet alyssum, sweet peas, Four O’clock flower ( if you are north of about Augusta Georgia) are sweet smelling flowers.

Snapdragons. Or freesia.

I chose geraniums and lobelia.

The geranium smells so pretty and it’s kitty approved. Thanks everyone.

I would print that cat photo and frame it. Scratch him/her behind the ears and say hi for me.

I was just planning vegetables and herbs for my little backyard garden, but you got me thinking about flowers. I may do a window box or something in front for the neighborhood to enjoy.

@jaytkay. Looking at the flowers as I enter the bathroom and smelling the fragrance has lifted my spirits. I’m sure the 80 degree temp today helped, but it’s nice to see flowers from inside the house. You should do it.
