What do you mean when you say professional designer? “Designer “can mean a lot of different things, especially where you live. If you mean design engineer you’ll need to get through school first. Are you in the U.S.? Here to be a licensed Professional Engineer it’ll be another four years of qualifying experience. Depends on what state you are in but generally it has to be done under the supervision of another a licensed engineer. This experience usually only starts after graduating from an ABET accredited engineering program and passing the fundamentals of engineering exam. Then you can take the PE exam if the state you are in accepts your credentials and exerience. You’ll be doing design work after graduation if that’s what you want and the job you get though. There is no shortcut to becoming a professional design engineer but you don’t have to have the license if you are doing design work under someone who is licensed.

Sounds like things your school should have experts available to you to talk to about, no?
