What are some great jobs that involve computers for people that have never worked before?

Asked by cecilia09 (205points) November 9th, 2016

So I have never worked before and I don’t have a university degree, but I love computers and I am pretty good with them, what are some entry level jobs/or beginner friendly jobs that involve computers.

Almost all jobs these days involve computers in one way or another.

Jobs that are considered entry-level now expect familiarity with computers. These include office administration and clerical type jobs. You need to be proficient with Word and Excel, at a minimum, and Powerpoint is always appreciated.

My first job was as a temp in the file room at my municipal government center. The lady who worked there had broken her leg quite badly and was on FMLA leave for a while. It was only a three month contract, but that led to a six month contract in another department, and then to a permanent position (until the 2008 crash and the department disbanded)

Most people don’t think of applying for government jobs. The pay isn’t generally fantastic, but the bennies can’t be beat, especially if you’re young and single.

Put together your resume now, and remember you can put damn near anything that’s true on it. Were you a member of Coding Club in high school? Put it on there. Did you have to teach your teacher how to use the auto-citation feature in Word? Congrats, you’re an advanced Word user. Can you operate Excel, like, AT ALL? Put it down, because most people who say they can, can’t, to the point where one job I had required an Excel proficiency test before they hired people.

The job market is pretty fierce, but the upside is that a lot of employers are starting to value practical knowledge more than years of experience. This is especially true in emerging fields, by virtue of the fact that the stuff hasn’t been around long enough for anyone to HAVE years of experience.
