Have you ever asked someone " What do you think of me?"?

Asked by Sneki95 (7017points) March 14th, 2017

If you did, did you actually believe the answer you
heard?
If you didn’t, would you ever have the courage or will to ask, and would you actually believe the answer?
Are there really people that honestly don’t care about their reputation and others’ opinion on them?

No, I don’t want to ruin relationship because of it. And beside, I will get lies 80% of the time.

But now that I’m anonymous… what do you think of me @Sneki95?

In December, 1993 I asked a woman I was dating if she thought there was a chance that she’d love me in the future.

She said yes, but there were 2 other guys whom she had been dating before she met me. They had seniority over me, so her weekends were unavailable.

In January, 1994 I met my future wife. Our weekends were available and we’ve been together since then.

No I don’t think anyone would tell the 100% truth to this question.

I’m more inclined to ask about my performance at something (work, school, as a husband or father). I’m more project and task minded.

“Did I do that well? And how can I improve (my performance)?”

I would never ask “What do you think of me (as a person)?” because the answers are too subjective and broad and I don’t think anyone would be completely honest.

Also, if I’m telling the truth, I don’t really care to know.

That would actually be interesting to try.
I bet most would give a sugar coated answer like “Oh, I think you’re a pretty good person.”
I bet you might get surprised by one or two that had been carrying around a little grudge toward you and would be happy to unload on you.
Example: One time I was talking to an old highschool friend on facebook and he brought up one time that we we’re drinking and one of my buddies jumped out of our boat in the middle of the lake with a lifejacket on and we thought it would be funny to take off and let him swim to shore (it was a small lake).
Anyway, I had forgotten about that and I contacted him say sorry about that and was surprised to find out that he’d been pissed about that for over 20 years snd said he was traumatized by it.
Well, I felt like shit and didn’t realize that we weren’t actually friends all this time because he never got over that.
I grew up swimming at the lakes and doing ctazy shit, but I guess for him that was huge???
So it’s amazing what people actually think of you.
