Should we be able to deduct points from a Flutheree for asking a nonsensical question or giving a nonsensical answer?

What if someone sees this question as such?!

Are humorous responses not allowed on this site?

One man’s humor is another’s nonsense, repetition or idiocy. “Click on ‘Flag as,’ check “Other” and write a pithy, original and trenchant comment.

We crave, ache for, are addicted to humor, as long as it is humorous. (There is no accounting for people’s taste. De gustibus non disputandum est. This issue is clearly not a new one.)

I think it would create a “great disturbance in the force”

gailcalled's avatar

which is already disturbed enough, nu?

“A day without laughter is a day wasted.” – Charlie Chaplin

Therefore, if I laugh while reading a question or answer on Fluther, then I have not wasted a day. You should be ashamed for trying to contradict Chaplin, waste days, and kill Funny.

Oh, and it’s not points that we’re taking away. It’s lurve: the child of Love and Larva.

@gali: I like nonsense

gailcalled's avatar

We all do, but we may define it differently, perhaps?

There are all sorts of views on this. The consensus on negative lurve is no. See this thread for the one known instance and this thread for someone else’s idea for deducting points.

SeekerSeekiing's avatar

No, no negative lurve——if one doesn’t like a quesiton they can scroll on by…same with an answer…ignore it. Hit the delete button in your mind!

Yes! We, the collective, should apply a carrot-and-stick approach to ensure everyone conforms to making concise, factual questions and answers without personal slants or humour.

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

No. I reserve the right to be an idiot part of the time. Isn’t it enough that I’m intelligent some of the time?

gailcalled's avatar

Yes, but, Susan, you are a funny idiot.

Ya know. I been on Fluther for 3 days, and already, I’m in a position to give you guys some serious advice. Believe me, I know everything! I’ve had my head up under the hood here for most of that time. I got the grease stains to proove it!

So here’s the thing. BronxLens is absolutely onto something. There is a serious danger you guys here face.

Fun!

Fun must not be allowed. They allowed it over on Askville for a while, and see where it got them? They banned all the funlovers. Now, I happen to know that most of them are now here, and you Flutherites are in mortal danger! Too much fun will happen if you allow these wicked Askvillites to remain here, unmasked.

There will be nonsense, satire, irony, and even more. You will be reeling. You won’t know what hit you. You won’t be able to think your way out of a paper bag.

I hereby volunteer to be on the “Nosense Determination Committee of Fluther.” NoDCoF will be the final arbiter of all things nonsensical. For the first nonsense offence, Members of the Collective will receive a loss of 2 lurve (who invented lurve, btw, it reeks of someone with a fun-loving mind). 2nd offence, 5 lurve. If a MotC makes ten nonsensical answers or questions, they’re banned forver.

Nonsense is probably the most heinous of online crimes. We see so much of it, we might consider pulling the plug on the internet entirely. So, who is with me? Who will join the NoDCoF? Come on folks. Step right up. Just remember, we get to wear really big pink hats!

You did what, behind whose barn, for how many cookies?

Mr_M's avatar

“Lurve” reeks of fun loving? When I was on Askville, as good as it got for me, I STILL never got into as many “fluthers” as I have here!

(I wonder if they suspend you on Askville for saying that?)

wundayatta's avatar

It wasn’t the cookies, Goldie, so much as the really giant snails attracted there by the paradox shrooms.
