Did humans really go to the Moon?

Asked by basstrom188 (3985points) January 11th, 2018

There are a lot of people today who believe the whole thing was staged in in a film studio. Some say it was done on the set of 2001 and directed by Stanley Kubrick. This leads on to the matter that all space exploration is a hoax including the ISS, Mars rovers, the Hubble telescope and even satellites. Reasons given are: the Van Allen radiation belt, high temperatures and of course the crystal dome.

The Moon landings were directed by Kubrick. However, Kubrick was such a perfectionist that he insisted upon filming on location.

There are a lot of people who believe the earth is flat too… For the record, I’m not one of them.

Yep. You can bounce a laser off the retro reflectors placed there.

Some people are idiots and will believe anything.
There are the Flat Earthers who think the Earth is flat. (yet they use a GPS to get to their meetings.)
There is a planet on the other side of the sun that mirrors earth. Yet NASA has sent numerous satellites and probes all over the solar system and see nothing.
9/11 was staged by Bush and his Republican cohorts to boost military equipment sales. Yet,...

If you like you can go to heavens-above.com put in your coordinates and you can see the different satellites going over at night. With good equipment you can see ISS and photograph it yourself.

We went. American astronauts walked on the moon. Accept it, and be proud.

When you say that “there are a lot of people today who believe the whole thing was staged. . .”, I am not sure what you mean by a lot.

A 1999 Gallup poll showed that 6% of the U.S. population believed the moon landing was faked. Source

@marinelife and Trump is president.
Idiots abound.

What perplexes me is how the people who think everything is a hoax can be so gullible.

Kardamom's avatar

They’re the same people who believe in chemtrails, and shadow people, or that Donald Trump is a smart man with a kind heart.

But people who cry “hoax” are supposedly exposing a deception, because that’s what a hoax is. The irony is that they’re credulous of the cry of “hoax” while simultaneously being skeptical of whatever it is they’re denying. If they’re such skeptics, why aren’t they skeptical of what’s being fed to them by the rabid and evidence-free deniers?

@Jeruba I have long wondered why people believe conspiracy theories. Here is an interesting article from Scientific American that shows some of the current research.

@marinelife Thanks for that article. I want to read it later and save it.
