I don’t watch Anime, but the cherry blossom has a lot of meanings in Japan. Here is a link, read the symbolism section.

I assume the cherry blossoms are like having the NY sky line. It lets you know what city you are in. Or, even what country. That’s only a guess though.

I grew up in Washington, DC, and we have cherry blossom time also. It’s very special if you live in the area, and people come from all over to see the cherry blossoms. We have those trees in America, because Japan gifted them to us. I sometimes use a DC cherry blossom photo as my cover photo in Facebook, because I associate it with my childhood. I put it up around cherry blossom time of year. I still have it up now, and it’s long past peak time.

Winters in Japan are cold and the houses there, generally speaking, don’t keep the cold out much. And the summers are blistering hot and humid. So in cherry blossom time, the weather is warm without being too warm and everyone comes out to see the blossoms and have a picnic. A wonderful time and big parties!
