Have you ever flown far with dogs joining you on the plane trip?

Have you been on a long haul flight with your dog? Was your dog with you or in the cargo section? How did the pooch handle the flight?

My daughter flew with her dog from Atlanta to Miami – about a 65 minute flight. Dog was on board in a little carrying case. They both did fine.

I think she drugged the dog (ambien) so it would chill during the trip.

I flew cross country (from Phila to Seattle with my dog). I wouldn’t do it again. My dog was in the cargo hold and was very traumatized. Also, since I have heard terrible horror stories.

@elbanditoroso I guess your dog was shaking, nauseated and terrified! I was wondering if most of these horror stories are true and it seems they are. I also suppose your dog was slightly drugged, right?

@ZEPHYRA – not my dog, it is my daughter’s dog.

He was perfectly happy in the carrying case on board, but he is only about 10 lbs.

Yes, sorry your daughter’s dog was okay and it must be a little one to have been allowed on board with your daughter. Sorry, I meant @marinelife who had a bad experience.

@ZEPHYRA Yes, he was tranquilized. He did not come out of it easily. We finally got him to eat later that day, and his liver started working so by the next morning he was OK. He was around a year old. I would definitely not do it again, especially with an older dog.
