I am a big fan of Mucinex for such things. The main ingredient thins and loosens muchus, helping with chest tightness and preventing it from becoming something like bronchitis.

I take the tablets, but they also make a liquid that can help with the scratchy throat.

Piggy back Tylenol for fever and pain plus some Fisherman’s Friends cough drops and a good cup of tea.

Medicinal Salsa. Dice two onions and 8 cloves of garlic. Add a can of Rotel and add a jalapeno (diced up). Dice up a couple sweet peppers. Saute the whole thing until the veggies start to get tender. Add a couple shots of Worcestershire sauce and another couple of soy sauce. Add 10 or 12 shakes of hot sauce. Salt and pepper to taste. Cool it down. Eat with tortilla chips. Eat until your mouth is on fire, let it cool down and eat some more. Your throat and chest will be clear by the next day.

I’d use an antihistamine for the itchy and a cough suppressant & expectorant for the other.

^^Sorry just couldn’t help thinking ant-man-histamine for itchiness, ironman-suppressant and expec-thor-ant —- my brain’s in superhero mode as I trek towards CVS…

Thanks all!

LOL! You need to quit drinking @mazingerz88!

What does chest tightness mean?

Are you congested?

Most coughs I recommend Robitussin DM and take a separate antihistamine or decongestant (or both) if you need it.

Don’t get the cough medicines that contain decongestants and fever/pain relievers combined. Always get separate drugs.

I get OTC. They all have the same active ingredient.
I agree. Take drugs for specific symptoms. Don’t take some drug that treats everything under the sun. But coughing and congestion usually go hand in hand and that’s why I always gave the kids the combo cough suppressant / decongestant, so they could sleep while the medicine worked.

Got stranded in a Starbucks on the way to CVS. This hot chocolate is no help.

“Stranded?”! Pour some rum into the hot chocolate….

DM is the combo expectorant suppressant.

I’ll recommend Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa. It’s traditional, natural, and effective. You can usually find it in Asian drugstores.

None of those things really work, sorry. You’re just going to have to suck it up. If you really have chest tightness you might have asthma and should see a doctor to get some proper medication.

It couldn’t be a cold @Caravanfan?

Caravanfan's avatar

@Dutchess_III Of course. Cold remedies just don’t work. Sometimes asthma can be triggered by colds.
