Would this unique technique theoretically work? (NSFW)

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24490points) January 6th, 2019

Having a device to suck out the food that one is choking on? Or for someone to suck out the food lodged in? In stead of the heimlich maneuver? I was wondering for 30 years about it. Please humor me.

That isn’t first aid, that is medical assistance with a device. Such devices exist for ambulances and hospitals.

The Heimlich can be done by anyone without any additional equipment, other than perhaps the back of a chair.

Why do you consider this NSFW?

What about it?

If they were able to figure out how to correctly use the device, and managed to find it and do so in time… so if you get one, be sure to tell your friends about it, where you keep it, and train them how to use it, before you start choking.

I guess it’s possible, but the person using it would have to be specifically trained or they could do more harm than good. Best to stick with the Heimlich in those cases.

It might work except that the person choking would probably die before you could get the device out, set it up, and apply it.

In my non-professional opinion, it seems that if someone is choking on something, sucking the air out of them would be rather dangerous.
