Who underwrites Fluther?

Asked by BronxLens (1539points) August 25th, 2008

Fluther does almost seemlessly everything is supposed to do, and does it pleasantly ad-free (I’m not counting the JellieShirt). Just curious what makes it keep going, and going from a financial POV.

Look down the right hand side of any page and you will usually find some Google ads.

There are ads on Fluther. Have you forgotten about that Adblocker you installed by any chance?

Yep, there are ads, and the guys are considerate enough to place them on the side where we can see them, but they aren’t so annoying.

I would be absolutely shocked if they’re making enough money from those Google Ads to support the development that goes into this site. My guess is that the plan is either to offer some premium paid features at some point, or to hope that someone comes along and buys the site or some part of the technology once it’s become popular enough.

Wow! For the first time since I am using Fluther I see an ad! It’s where the old JellieShirt ad used to be. And yes, I might have AdBlocker installed (too lazy to check right now LoL).

@Tone, I share your thinking. I can see Google or one of the other big fishes gulping Fluther =/
