I need help with re-installing windows?

Asked by pplufthesun (617points) August 30th, 2008

Okay, I do not want to uninstall the windows that is on my computer, but I want to install it on an external hard drive so there are two different windows that can be chosen to run at start up. Can I do this?

I don’t think you will be able to boot Windows from an external (USB) hard drive.

Is that a question?

When I first read the question, I was expecting an answer about carpentry :-)

Nope, you can’t boot from an external drive. You could partition the main one using the installer?

You might be able to boot from a USB drive, however you need to first have that option available in your boot sequence in your BIOS. Check there and if you can boot from USB then set up your boot sequence accordingly.

I thought it was going to be about carpentry too.
