How do I make boneless chicken breasts in a crock pot? The goal is burrito meat.

Asked by johnpowell (17881points) February 5th, 2020

I know this sounds stupid since it should be so damn simple and I have been Binging (fuck google) it for the last hour and all the recipe sites are just garbage.

Last time (and first) I tried I covered the breast in chicken broth and let it cook on high for four hours. Then used one of these to shred the chicken.

After four hours I looked in the crockpot and I’m not really sure how to explain what happened. But there was just big globs of shit everywhere and the liquid had been boiling. The chicken fell apart but it was very dry.

My sister suggested less liquid. She said a half cup of broth and to not cover the chicken. This doesn’t seem right. Is it?

I have two chicken breasts that are boneless and around a pound each and I would like to turn them into food soon.

So I am seeking advice from real people. And I am convinced that all the top recipe sites on Bing and Google are run by the same company. This shit is ridiculous. The internet was a mistake.

Take the two thawed chicken breasts, don’t do anything to them in the way of chopping or pounding. Take off any skin on the breasts. Rub them with whatever seasoning you want. For burrito meat I would use something like salt, pepper, chili powder, and ground cumin. Toss them into the crock pot. Pour in some chicken broth…don’t quite cover them, maybe half a cup of liquid for each pound of meat. At this point you also have some other options. Put in some diced onions or jalapenos or add some hot sauce or other liquid flavorings, to let those flavors cook into the meat. Cook on high for about 2–3 hours, then turn it down to low and go for another 4–5 hours. If you want to eat sooner, cook on high for a little longer and on low a little shorter. If you want more tender and fall-apart, cook on low longer. IMPORTANT Don’t open the crock pot while you are cooking it. Just let it do it’s thing. Every time you open the lid you let some of the juices out AND you let the heat out. After you think it has cooked long enough, then open the crock pot and check the internal temp. You are looking for 165F. You shouldn’t have any problems with reaching this provided you used thawed meat and didn’t keep opening the crock pot. The meat should be fall apart tender. Shred it with either meat claws or forks. Enjoy!

I would say you can leave it on the bone for cooking. Once it is cooked it will easily fall of the bone when cooked in a crock pot. I think maybe you cooked it too long. I haven’t made crock pot chicken in a long time, but I think I only cooked it 1.5 hours? Maybe google a few recipes. You don’t need a lot of liquid to cook in a crocks pot, you need a lot of water for a pressure cooker like InstaPot.,maybe that is part of the confusion.

Why not just make them in a pan on the stove? They will cook in 20 minutes. they won’t shred if that is what you want, but they will be line typical chicken breasts.

I put in the breasts. and covered in chicken broth about 25% of the way up the breast. And I cooked them way less than I did last time. And I ran up to Safeway to get a meat thermometer. This dude doesn’t fuck with food poisoning. Got the chicken up to 180ยบ.

And this time I used a crockpot liner..

And I added some some juice from the crockpot to the shredded bird so hopefully that will keep things moist.

And this will all get covered in melted cheddar and sour cream and fire sauce.

I was going to say you’re overcooking it, but it looks like you figured that out. And you don’t have to go to 180; 165 is already a safe overshooting. I pull chicken at high 150s and let it rest.
