What makes a hybrid golf club different from a plain old golf club?

Asked by kritiper (25757points) February 16th, 2020

I had assumed that a fairway hybrid was just a intermediate club that took the place of a two wood, three wood, four wood, and a five wood. But today I heard someone say something about a hybrid four wood. What gives?

Hybrids come in different sizes, I have a Three, four, and a nine hybrid .
From what I understand they are a cross between a driver and an iron rolled into one club, but someone more in tune with golf technology could probably explain it better.
