From an evolution stand point, was it cooperation or competition that's made humans the dominant species ?

Competitive cooperation between their manual digits, has given humans the ability to use tools to make fools of all other species.

I saw a documentary about cooperation between chimps. Scientists set up tests where the only way they could get a reward was to cooperate….and they did.
