Can you give me examples of famous wars in which the military of foreign nations was not barbaric and raped local women, had children with them, and then ran away leaving them to fend for themselves?

No matter what kind of war it is. If it has only two Countries in them or more. There is always rape, killing of Innocent people and burning down towns. Thats sad reality of war

There was the 6 Day Arab-Israeli war in which I suspect there was no rape being that it was only 6 days.

And probably wars that were fought primarily at sea like the Peninsular Wars between England and France in the 18th century.

@janbb there were reports of rape after that 6 days war

@Koxufoxu I’m not arguing but could you provide some citations for that?

Certainly not saying that the Israeli army is always blameless.

@janbb “Several women reported allegations of rape by the IDF, including the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl.[4] At least two internal inquiries were initiated during 1948–49 by the IDF, but their reports remain classified.” thats from wikipedia

Get real. War is a nasty business; no single nation or side is blameless. I have read reports on rapes and murders committed by Allied troops, American and Brit both, during World War Two, all of the “Great Crusade”, “Greatest Generation” hype aide.

Putin’s special military operation in Ukraine is a glowing example. Its aim was to demilitarize and denazify the country and was supported by honourable Russian professional soldiers who would never rape or torture or shoot dead local civilians. At least not if your news come exclusively from Russian state media.

I can’t.

But from what I can tell, all that barbarity and murder and raping and child abandonment and community destruction goes on even without war.

They call it “peacetime”.

No such thing could ever exist. The only way to weaken the resolve of soldiers is give them no home to protect.

Doubtful. I figure there is always some man with a gun taking advantage of his power and autonomy to do criminal acts in the middle of wars. Military and the police, and basically any job along those lines is going to attract people who care about protecting and helping others, and also attract people who like the idea of raping, killing, and pillaging, using their position as a way to deny their criminal actions. You get both extremes in those professions.

I mean… it depends how nit-picky you want to be. If you peruse even the most civilly fought war, there will be at least SOME soldiers misbehaving. But that’s not the same as saying all wars are equally barbaric. The Japanese treatment of invaded countries during WW2 for example was EXCEPTIONALLY brutal.

This isn’t a binary. All war is brutal, and the breakdown in norms that occurs during it means there’s always opportunity for abuse…but remember abuse happens in peacetime as well. That’s just real life and likely always will be. But scale of attrocities is important to take into consideration.
