Hope Hilary isn’t flooding you!

No flooding at my house. This is because it’s on a 3-foot high foundation, which lies on a lot that’s about 3’ above street level.

I live in a basically flat part of the valley, although my street has a very gradual downward slope to the LA river, which is our primary drainage channel.
Consequently, this is a flood-free area; I’ve been living here for almost 50 years, and have never experienced any flooding.

The last time we had any appreciable summer rain here was in 2015, so for me this storm was a welcome relief from our usual fiery, hot, and dusty summers.

My heart goes out to the less-than-wealthy people who lost their homes during Hilary, to the residents of Phoenix, AZ who endured about a month of 110º+ heat, and especially the people of Lahaina, who lost their homes and their lives in a fire that never should have happened.

If I had as much money as Musk, I’d be reaching out to help these people, instead of buying a “free speech” forum for Nazis.

Just saw this question. I was in San Diego. It rained and I am pretty sure, not completely sure, but pretty sure that I saw a leaf move in the wind once.

Back to sunny skies but it’s much cooler than usual for this time of year.

I have a buddy in Long Beach who had one of his trees get damaged from the storm. A whole branch got busted off.

We’re actually in NorCal. But had to fly down right before the storm for a family emergency.

The sky before the storm was partially a shade of green I’d never seen before. Most flights got cancelled. And I ended up having to hitch a ride back up north.

Heard from family and friends that the actual storm wasn’t too bad.

Wow, what an adventure!

I’ve seen photos of the green skies that precede a tornado, but I’ve never seen one that color in CA.
Perhaps it’s the effect that cyclonic activity has on the upper troposphere.
Please tell me that you have at least one photo of your verdant visuals.

In celebration of your emerald experience, I’ve prematurely changed my avatar to an image of an auroral tornado!

And how did you go from flying down here to having to hitch a ride back home?

@Brian1946 I really wish I had gotten a picture! But I was driving on the freeway at the time. :/

Sister had a 5150. So flew down to see her. Then all the flights got cancelled because of the storm. But luckily my niece had also driven down to see her mom. So I hitched a ride back up with them.

Except she had a cat and I’m allergic to certain cats. (Not all cats. But I don’t know which ones will set off my allergies.) So I took Flonase and sat in their car with the cat for an hour in the driveway to see if I could handle a six hour drive. Ha!

Nice avatar!
