Does anyone else get double charged for groceries from a delivery service?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24473points) October 25th, 2023

I get a double charge when a price gets updated from a grocery delivery service. It has happened more than once with same company.

Credit card provider says that they can’t do anything.

Delivery service says that it will be reversed in 3 or so days.

Is that normal? I payed ~$100 a year for service. I would prefer to be fixed as the service is valuable.

I’m not completely sure I understand.

Do you mean that you bought an item and paid for it, and then later the price of the item was changed resulting in you being charged again for something you’ve already paid for?

@Hawaii_Jake Yes that is correct. Though a delivery service. $71, and $75. For example the weight of a bunch of bananas changed in price and instead of just a discount, I was charged the whole correct amount with not removing the first charge.

In 3 days my money is refunded, but it ties up my credit while the hold is cleared.

I’m sorry that’s happened. Call the delivery service and ask them to reverse the second charge. I’m sorry to say you’re going to have to keep all your receipts and check them every time and compare them to your charges from your credit card.

@Hawaii_Jake It gets refunded automatically, in 3 days, and the delivery service refuses to fix the problem. I can’t get past the gatekeeper to someone to hear the problem, and fix it

@RedDeerGuy1 I’m very sorry to hear that. You’re going to have to be diligent and keep checking your charges.

@Hawaii_Jake It is worked out. I will only order from them If I can cover 200% of the purchase price, for 3–5 days while my credit is tied up. Just in case. The agent from the delivery service gave his word that it will never happen again.

Thanks.

Also is this happening to anyone else?

In my case, it’s not the delivery service who charges me, it’s the store – Walmart. My delivery drivers are DoorDash and others like that. Are you sure it’s the delivery driver and not the store who’s doing the charging?

Also, for weighted items, when I’m ordering, the charge says it will be weighed and I’ll be charged whatever it is per pound. They don’t give me a specific amount until that’s finalized. Then that’s what I see online for a final price.

No, I don’t but I get a flat charge of $175.00 when I use “PAY AT THE PUMP” at several stations! !

It clears the next day, to what the pump showed, so I only use my charge card not my debt card.

No idea, but I have not had the experience. Why not just order from a store that actually delivers (if there is one).
