What to do for a sour stomach? (Possibly NSFW)

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24473points) 2 months ago

I’ve had a sour stomach all night, from eating a variety of foods. I took 2 tums last night, and 2 tums now.
I’m was trying not to vomit all night, and now.

What else should I do? Or should I take more tums?

My pharmacy is closed today for family day in Alberta.

If you have 750mg, you can take up to 10 in 24 hours unless you are taking prescriptions that say no antacids. https://www.tums.com/antacid-products/extra-750/?bvstate=pg:14/ct:r

Are you drinking enough water ?

@Tropical_Willie Update I hurled, and feel better now. Pharmacy said to take some pepto bismal, but my doctor says that I can’t take it with my pills.

I can take milk of magnesia or imodioum. I will have to wait until Tuesday as my local Pharmacy is closed today.

I will drink some water.

I’ll ask again – -Are you drinking enough water ? Maybe just sucking on ice cubes.

@Tropical_Willie Thanks. I feel better now.

I’m really sorry your stomach is upset and sorry you vomited. I don’t recommend either milk of magnesia or immodium for an upset stomach. I hope drinking water helps.

I will take a long warm bath now. I have chores to do today that I can not delay much.

Thanks everyone. I just needed to get rid of what was causing my sour stomach.

Although it sounds counter productive, it works!!! A couple swallows of orange juice will bring on a HUGE belch & that releases some of the gas causing the problem. You do NOT want to drink much or it will make it worse; however when in a pinch, a few swallows can help.

I don’t like Tums because of the chalky residue they leave behind. Lately I’ve been using Alka Seltzer Heartburn Relief in the tropical fruit flavor. They say you can chew them but I find that they work just as well if you suck on them & allow them to dissolve slowly. Most of the time, 2 is all I need to get relief.

@RedDeerGuy1 Oops, I forgot, NEVER lay on your left side when having one of these episodes as that makes it WORSE!!!

I have been using doppelherz stomach gel for some years now. Works almost instantly, the only drawback is that it has the consistency and taste of veterinary lube.

Why is this NSFW?

@canidmajor Is NSFW because I am talking about “hurling”.

Going forward, if it is mild indigestion Tums work well enough. If it is stronger or if it seems to be continuing, I take Zegrid. It is OTC and is a mix of Omeprazole and calcium carbonate. The cc works like Tums for an immediate help, the O helps reduce acid production in the stomach. You can take 1 or 2 at a time. I’ve never had to go more than that. If that does work or if I feel like I’m going to puke, I reach for the pink bismuth solution (Pepto Bismol).

Update I had some soup and a v8 veggie cocktail, and cool water. I’m feeling better.

Put about ½ teaspoon of baking soda in water, stir and drink.
