Asked by glitterrrrfish (222points) September 28th, 2008 from iPhone

why are the keys on the keyboard of a computer ordered the way they are?
Why not in alphabetical order?

i believe, not having read the above link, that when people started using typewriters many moons ago, they were in alphabetical order.. THis led to people typing too fast and breaking a lot of the then flimsy machines, qwerty was brought in to stop people doing that, then it was simply transferred to keyboards,

either that or i just made it up :)3

@TheFonz_is—How would the keys being in alphabetical order allow people to type faster?
