My wife and I attended the Gold Cup in Southern California to see The U.S. National Soccer Team play, which was okay since we did get to go to Maui in January. Three summers ago, i took a solo road trip of 8 states in 9 days. I did drove through South Dakota and Custard Park, dodging buffalo the whole way.

i know where your comin from bud. Wow that sounds like an awesome trip, well all of them do. Soccer games are fun, its a much more different environment then a baseball game, especially if you go to a game out of the us. Those foriegn countries are very passionate!

We have a friend, a native of Kauai, he took us on a trip that was unbelievable...nothing that a usual visitor gets to see. He took us to secret beaches only known to Hawaiians. He took us up in mountians to "pick leis" for a family celebration. His father is a lei maker by trade. His father made us beautiful leis for every day that we were there. We never out. His family and friends made all of the local food for us and brought it to us every day with fresh fruit. My daughter had become penpals with his two daughters, and wow!...what an experience for a 13 year old. She did things I never thought was possible. We all even went surfing with their family. It was unbelievable. We all cried when we had to leave. Gordon, our friend, was humming the Beaches song, Wind beneath my wings, to our daughter and his because they were swearing to always keep in touch and be the best of friends for life. They have kept in touch. Gordon would love for our daughter to go and spend a summer with his family when she is a little older. We can't wait to go there again. We spoke with him today about the hurricane which is approaching. He was so kind and concerned when Katrina hit here. They are batting down the hatches and we are praying that they survive unscathed through this storm. When Iniki hit in 92, his whole house was destroyed down to the slab and it took over 2 years to rebuild. Let's all keep the folks down in the great state of Hawaii in our thoughts as they battle the storm! Thanks!

wow that sounds so amazing, what an experience that would be for a child. That's unfortunate about their house, they will be in my prayers :)

In the spring, I went to Denver for a convention and stayed the week after with my friend whom I've known since Kindergarten. Sadly, the weather was amazing during the convention, and lousy during my vacation. But we still had fun; it was my first vacation in 8 years -- since the last time I went out to see her after her son was born.

wow, it must have been nice to relax and get away, especially after 8 years!
