Can I get my computer to put in an ellipsis automatically when I type three periods?

On Windows XP. It would be nice, but really it’s no big deal…

Um…
Hmm…

I’m not sure if that would save much time…

I’m sure there’s a key combination to do that, right? On OS X, it’s Option + ; (semi-colon)

Google short keys. You can set them to type anything with a keyword. For example I could set ”,.” to a signature such as ”-Pixel.” You have to download it though.

Whoa, that’s nice. I’m not sure if I’ll actually do it, though. Thanks.

Try CTRL + ALT + . (period)

It’s listed under shortcuts for MS Office, but it might work systemwide.

No problem… Gail. :)

(@rh: the last time I hit Option and random keys, the Mac started to talk to me. It took a lot of jabbing to turn off the voice.)

I must not be using my share of ellipses. The thought of a shortcut never crossed my mind.

@jvgr: Not quite as thrilling as the interrobang, I guess.

Thanks richardhenry. I hadn’t heard of the interrobang, but find it could be a useful mark.
