What is the best way to remove obnoxious stickers from a laptop? Intel Inside? I don't care!

Asked by tonedef (3935points) December 3rd, 2008

“Vista Capable!” “Intel Centrino Inside!” Bah!

How do you remove all of the obnoxious stickers that manufacturers put on laptops? This is a 2-parter: 1) is there a good technique for peeling them off? 2) Best way to remove residue?

I ordered a new little lappy, and am trying to get everything sorted out before it arrives ;)

I’ve always been bad at removing stickers, but I think you can just peel it off, then scratch away the white residue, and then maybe use a damp washcloth or somethign on the are so it’s not so sticky? After a while it’ll be good.

Those stickers seem so… metally. I have this intense dread when I think about metal going under my fingernail. I’m a big wimpo. Are those stickers metal, or am I making it up in my head?

Yeah, the stickers are usually backed with thick foil. Peel them off gently, and then give the surface a clean up with goo gone or something similar. The other option is rubbing hard with a thin dry cloth (something the glue will stick to), but it unfortunately involves rubbing hard with a thin dry cloth.

Goo gone, as suggested above, plus a single-edge razor blade, as you would find in a paint scraper. Be careful not to get any of the Goo Gone onto the LCD screen, as it can dull the plastic.

a great alternative to goo gone is acetone free nail polish remover. But goo gone generally does the trick.

My laptop would look naked with out those stickers. I would have to replace them with something better.

WD-40 is also a good sticker-remover. Good luck!

Heat stickers with a hair dryer before pealing, then deal with the adheasive. WD 40 should do it. If it is on a surface (not plastic or paint, in other words glass) that laquer thinner won’t hurt. It will work well. It drys out hands and is very flamable, so be careful. I have seen adheasive that laquer thinner wouldn’t touch, and WD 40 took right off…weird!
