Online Volunteering?

Asked by shared3 (921points) January 14th, 2009

I can’t seem to find any good places to volunteer online. I’m only a high school student (junior), so that might be a factor, but I can’t find many organizations where I can help over email. Anyone know of any oppertunities like this?

What are you volunteering for?

Do you mean why am I volunteering? I am volunteering to help ppl…

Or do you mean do I have a particular interest? Yes, I do, but I’m looking at everything right now.

So anything in the world!?
I think you might need to be a bit more specific. How about asking your school too.

and when you say by email, do you mean you want to do online volunteering? like a help desk online or something?
People get paid to do that.
I don;t understand where you;re coming from at all tbh.

Well, I’m asking if there are any volunteering positions that can be conducted over the internet. I’ve come across some articles about it, but I have never met anyone that actually does this. It seems like a cool idea (considering my location, I can’t exactly volunteer locally) so I thought I would give it a try.

The Afghan School Project makes use of online volunteers to help organize fundraisers, write proposals, research curriculum, and that sort of thing. There are groups that will employ their volunteers in a wide range of responsibilities (other than answering phones or filing), but they’re usually smaller organizations.

There are many opportunities to do things to improve the lives of others in your community.
Contact your local town, city or state government to connect with those who help willing volunteers to find opportunities that interest them and for which they are qualified. If you find such an opportunity that you can do online, then wonderful. Don’t be afraid to get out from behind your computer, get off you butt and get out there where you will be in contact with real people in real-time. Not only will it open all kind of opportunities and connections for you for your future but it may change your sense of what you can do to make a different in this work. Just do it!
